Frequently Asked Questions

Jiu Jitsu is a practical self defense Martial Art that is suitable for both men and women of all ages, size and fitness levels. Its origins come from the Japanese Samurai and it incorporates all aspects of Martial Arts. Stand up techniques include – punches, kicks, throwing, and locks. Ground Work techniques include – hold-downs, strangulation, locks and manipulations. Jiu Jitsu also teaches the student self confidence and can be used as an added training and fitness regimen for other sports.
We concentrate mainly on real self defense from real situations but also incorporate a sport fighting component. Our focus though is on teaching quality Martial Arts that all can master given time. Many of our students and instructors have competed in tournaments in New Zealand and around the world. The skills learned are passed onto our club members
Our head instructor is Terry Evans, who has competed in local and International competitions. He competed in 1996 ISJA World Games, USA where he won Gold while he trained at Waitakere Martial Arts in Auckland, and again in 1998 ISJA World Games, Canada.
